Our History

For the first time since Prohibition, hand-crafted vodka is again being distilled in New Jersey.

On New Year’s Day 1920, the prohibition era in the United States began. With the passage of the Eighteenth Amendment, the sale and consumption of alcohol was banned in the United States. In an era when the goal of the United States government was to keep the United States as dry as possible, New Jersey did it’s best to keep itself as “wet as the Atlantic”. The roaring 20s as they became known are best remembered for a country that lived life in the most carefree manner, and New Jersey personified the Hedonistic era of the times.

During the eleven year Prohibition era, New Jersey became known for its bootlegging. Drinking on the Jersey Shore was common place and bootleggers thrived, and along with the success of the bootleggers came the success of the Jersey Shore. Tourism boomed, due to the fact that visitors knew that they would be able to get their hands on alcohol without having to worry about prison time or fines.

Prohibition represented an eleven year golden era for the Jersey Shore that has not since been replicated.  81 years following the repeal of Prohibition, Lazy eye distillery is proud to bring Southern New Jersey back to its roots. We are proud to bring you the first distilled products from Atlantic County since the time of Prohibition.

Pinelands National Reserve

The Pinelands, also known as the Pine Barrens, is a heavily forested area that spans more than seven counties across southern New Jersey. Located relatively close to major cities such as New York and Philadelphia, the natural beauty of the pinelands has been left undisturbed. In 1978 congress passed legislation to protect the Pinelands, resulting in the creation of the Pinelands National Reserve which became the nation’s first national reserve. We are proud to be opening up our distillery in the midst of such natural beauty, and are proud to be the very first of our kind in the Pinelands National Reserve.
